French President Emmanuel Macron has acknowledged his disagreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but expressed solidarity with the Israeli people, recognizing their right to defend themselves against terrorism, but firmly declared that “the time for a ceasefire had come.” He dismissed the notion that continued arms deliveries and escalating warfare in Gaza and Lebanon would bring the security Israelis and the region desperately need.
Netanyahu spoke to Macron for turning his back on Israel during its fight against what he called the “forces of barbarism” led by Iran. In a video statement, Netanyahu condemned the French leader and other Western allies for pushing an arms embargo, accusing them of hypocrisy. “Shame on them,” Netanyahu lashed out, questioning whether Iran had ever held back weapons from its proxies while Israel faces relentless attacks. His message was clear—Israel will not tolerate abandonment by its so-called allies while facing a grave existential threat.
The intensifying rift between the two leaders comes as Israel braces for more conflict after Iran unleashed a barrage of ballistic missiles, pushing the entire Israeli population into bomb shelters. In retaliation, Israel pounded southern Beirut, and further strikes on Iran appear imminent. Despite the growing tensions, Macron’s firm stance against arming Israel sends a bold message, one that Netanyahu is clearly unwilling to accept without a fight.
